FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM
The animal figures on the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli t-shirts have become a "must". Elena Achilli tells us how this idea came about.

The dock out at the base of Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli is one of the most intense moments on the land, with the AC75 and the chase boats that leave the base accompanied by the support of all the fans. In between all the families of the team members that for the occasion, wear the team’s t-shirt personalised with some unique drawings. Each drawing resembles an animal that represents a member of the team
The idea of personalising the t-shirts was Elena Achilli’s, the wife of Gilberto Nobili. Elena has experience as an art director and she has worked on designing illustrations for scientific books and publications. Already in the previous campaigns she had created cartoons that represented the boats or small stories behind the Cup. This time, for fun, starting with the Bear that represents Gillo, she found an animal that represented each member of the team

Elena tells us how did the idea arise?
I have a great passion for animals and for art. In the previous campaigns I enjoyed creating some illustrations inherent of the boats in the Cup. This time, for fun, I wanted to associate animals to each of the team members that were later added to the t-shirts and hats of the mothers and children of the team members. I wanted to tie these figures to the animal instincts that sometimes hide in each one of us. I started with Gillo, who is represented perfectly by the Bear, both from a physical point of view but also by his personality. Then, bit by bit, all the children asked for there to be an animal that symbolised their father.
How did you go about associating the animals to each member of the team?
With the help of the children we tried to find the characteristics of each team member, not only physically but also by personality. Jimmy is represented by the Kangaroo, the symbol of Australia, with boxing gloves because he is passionate about boxing. Checco is an eagle that represents his main characteristics. The lion represents the courage of Romano Battisti, the bull represents Matteo Celon and so on.
Obviously this fashion spread also the the members of the design team and the shore team. Today almost everyone has an animal on their t-shirt.
